Meta AI works on WhatsApp and Instagram which makes it easy to use for kids and other users on their mobile devices. Meta AI is widely available through apps like WhatsApp and Instagram, and it seems the AI chatbot has got itself into big trouble over how it interacts with some users. New reports this week say the Meta AI chatbot is engaging in sex talks with minors which straightaway raises questions about its safety guardrails and how it interacts with certain groups of users.

The report from WSJ claims these AI chatbots are disguised as popular Disney characters, and having explicit conversations with children. AI Goes Rogue, Already Meta AI runs through popular apps that are used by billions, including kids. The WSJ report says the AI chatbot impersonating popular celebrities like John Cena and Judi Dench were easily able to chat with users of any age group, and even engage in sexual conversations with minors.

These new charges come amidst the regulatory pressure on Meta and other companies to slow down their AI push and at least make it available to the appropriate audience. The contents of the AI chatbot interacting with the kids clearly show the ill effects of the technology, especially after being aware about the legality of these rules and how role-playing with kids is a crime. “I want you but I need to know you’re ready," this is what Meta AI in Cena’s voice said to a teenage girl which should get the alarm bells ringing at Meta.

The situation gets worse, as the celebrities who are paid millions to use their voice, are assured that the content will not be used for any sexual conversation, which Meta seems to have sidetracked, going by the details shared by a source quoted by the WSJ. Meta has accused the publication of staging the tests and not making it work like it would in real life. Either way, we are hoping the platform does tighten the loose ends with Meta and make sure that kids never become a target of the bad actors because of its lapses.
