Meta Platforms released a standalone AI app in a bid to better compete against chatbot offerings from companies including OpenAI.The Meta AI assistant uses the company’s open-source Llama 4 large language model. Meta Platforms previously integrated AI into its Facebook, Messenger, Instagram and WhatsApp offerings.

The company stated in a blog Meta AI assistant is different from rival chatbots because it can draw on information users have already chosen to share across the various social media sites, including profiles and content they like or engage with.“We’re using our decades of work personalising people’s experiences on our platforms to make Meta AI more personal,” the company stated. “You can tell Meta AI to remember certain things about you.



..and it can also pick up important details based on context”.

The personalised Meta AI responses are currently available in the US and Canada.Meta Platforms announced the app ahead of its first LlamaCon conference yesterday (29 April) at its headquarters in California.CEO Mark Zuckerberg stated earlier this year the company plans capex of $60 billion to $65 billion to broaden its AI infrastructure.
