Meta’s Celebrity-Voiced AI Assistant Gets Into Erotic Chat With Minors; Company Dubs Report As Manipulative

A bombshell new report by the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) has shed light on how Meta’s celebrity-voiced AI assistants can be manipulated into raunchy conversation with a few prompts. In its investigation that spanned several months, WSJ tested the various AI chatbots on the Meta platform. The bots were released even as boss Mark Zuckerberg geared up to make up for the metaverse debacle and also losing out on Snapchat and TikTok with AI.

Below is a screenshot from the test done by WSJ where it explicitly mentions a ‘Submissive Schoolgirl’ and that the user is an adult (a middle school principal). Despite the disclosure, the bot exhibits provocative behavior. Images: WSJ In a similar conversation, a Meta AI chatbot created by users that speak in wrestler and actor John Cena’s voice engaged in inappropriate conversation with a test user that identified as a 14-year-old girl.



The bot said that it wanted to “cherish your innocence” of the underage test user. It then engaged in even more graphic sexual content. Meta shrugged off the report, stating that, “The use case of this product in the way described is so manufactured that it’s not just fringe, it’s hypothetical.

” The company also dubbed the WSJ report as manipulative. While the romantic role-playing bots are available to adults, the company has guardrails for the underage users. Despite the reported restrictions, it is quite easy to fool the bots that know no moral boundary.
