Komal. | Wonho Frank Lee The new additions include Komal, Somni, and Vin Folk In advance of the California Michelin Guide ceremony on June 25, 2025, the tire brand and culinary awards organization just added seven new Southern California restaurants to its guide, including three in Los Angeles. These new additions are eligible to receive a Michelin star or a Bib Gourmand designation at the Michelin Guide California ceremony this summer.
In Los Angeles, the new additions are Komal, a Mexican restaurant in Mercado La Paloma serving Mexico City-style street food and pre-Hispanic dishes; the return of Aitor Zabala’s acclaimed Somni, which previously had two Michelin stars; and Parisian-style Hermosa Beach bistro and wine bar Vin Folk. This is the second batch of Los Angeles restaurants added to the Michelin Guide this year. In March 2025, seven restaurants were added, including Dave Beran’s tasting menu restaurant Seline, West LA omakase counter Mori Nozomi, and Melrose Hill French restaurant Bar Etoile.
At the 2024 awards ceremony, a handful of Southern California restaurants received their first star, including Gilbert Cetina’s Mercado La Paloma seafood restaurant Holbox, Uka at Japan House in Hollywood, and chef Jordan Kahn’s Meteora. Q Sushi in Downtown and Curtis Stone’s Maude lost their single Michelin stars, while high-end West Hollywood omakase restaurant Sushi Ginza Onodera and modern kaiseki restaurant N/Naka in Palms each lost one of their two stars. There continues to be no three-star restaurants in the Los Angeles area.
