Minneapolis residents can expect some road work delays starting early next month as the City of Minneapolis gears up to resume its resurfacing project on St. Anthony Parkway. The city's Public Works announced that the parkway will be shut down from Hayes Street NE to Johnson Street NE beginning May 5, 2025, according to an official update .
The closure, which is expected to last approximately a month, is part of the first phase of the 2025 work plan. The logistical dance to avoid disrupting pedestrian flow too heavily includes installing temporary ramps at Ulysses St NE. However, those choosing to bike through the area won't be able to ride through, they will be asked to get off their bikes, and walk instead.
It's like déjà vu for locals who just last year witnessed the parkway between Hayes Street NE and Stinson Boulevard getting a fresh layer of asphalt. That project, wrapped in 2024, was just the beginning of the parkway's face-lift. In preparation for the disruptions, the city is calling for a community meeting about the project.
It will take place on Tuesday, April 29, from 4 pm to 6 pm at the Windom Northeast Recreation Center, located at 1801 23rd Ave NE. This gathering is a chance for residents to voice concerns, ask questions, and generally get the lowdown on what's happening with their streets. Motorists and commuters are advised to follow all posted detours and give a wide berth to areas where work crews are present.
The city emphasizes the importance of patience during the infrastructure upgrade, though nobody enjoys the inconvenience, the result should be smooth sailing, or driving, as the case may be. A second phase is also on the docket, slated to commence later in 2025, this time focusing on the section of parkway stretching between Johnson and Central Avenue NE. Stay tuned for more updates as the city continues to chisel away at its roadworks agenda.
