News Ghana, Latest Updates and Breaking News of Ghana, Prosper Kay, https://newsghana.com.gh/minority-health-caucus-appeals-to-tth-doctors-to-resume-emergency-and-outpatient-services/The Minority Caucus on Health in Parliament has appealed to the Doctors Association of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (DATTH) to urgently reconsider their decision to suspend emergency and outpatient services at the facility, citing serious concerns over the impact on public health.

In an official statement issued on Friday, the Caucus acknowledged the frustrations and legitimate grievances that informed the doctors’ decision but urged a swift return to service in the supreme interest of patients, particularly the vulnerable who depend on the hospital for life-saving care.“We do not underestimate the gravity of your concerns, which reflect deep-seated frustrations, structural neglect, and a lack of respect that must be addressed,” the statement read. “However, we respectfully appeal for the immediate restoration of emergency and outpatient services to avert further health crises.

”The Caucus, led by Hon. Dr. Nana Ayew Afriye, also emphasized its appreciation for the doctors’ sacrifices and unwavering commitment to healthcare delivery in the face of limited resources and intense pressure.

“Your service is not only noble, but indispensable to the nation’s healthcare system,” the statement noted. While acknowledging that calls for an apology from the Health Minister may be part of the doctors’ demands, the Caucus cautioned against making the restoration of critical services conditional on such a gesture. “Lives may be lost before such an apology is issued,” they warned, stressing that focus must instead remain on saving lives as Parliament pursues institutional remedies and accountability.

The Minority Caucus reaffirmed its commitment to championing the doctors’ concerns in Parliament, including pushing for improvements in logistics, infrastructure, and overall working conditions at TTH. “Your welfare and dignity are a priority to us, and we will use our oversight role to ensure your needs are addressed,” they assured. The statement concluded with a call for calm and constructive engagement.

“We urge all parties to prioritize dialogue and mutual respect in the interest of public health. We remain open to facilitating any process that will bring about healing, restoration, and progress,” it said. The appeal was jointly signed by Hon.
