‘Miracle no one killed’ as ‘reckless’ Lucky Dip burglary gang speed wrong way down M50 in stolen car to flee gardai

GARDAI are hunting members of the ‘Lucky Dip’ burglary gang who drove a stolen car the wrong way on the M50 for 14km.The young hoods were in a BMW 1 Series – which had been stolen in south Dublin on Sunday – when they were spotted by a Garda patrol car around 11pm in Dundrum.Officers attempted to stop the vehicle before it sped off and drove on to the M50.

The vehicle drove into oncoming traffic for four junctions before leaving at the Red Cow junction.The car – also chased by the Garda helicopter – was then abandoned in the Bluebell area of the capital.It’s understood there were three suspects in the vehicle before they ran off in different directions.



Officers suspect they were given sanctuary in the area by other gang members.The stolen car was later recovered by Gardai and is now being examined.One source said: “The gang drove the wrong way between four junctions and it’s a miracle no one was killed.

“They are totally reckless and don’t care about other members of the public.“Once they abandoned the car they managed to escape.“They specialise in stealing cars and are operating all over the country.

”ROAD DEATHThe latest incident of dangerous driving involving the ‘Lucky Dip’ gang – whose ages range between 14 and 17 – comes after Michael ‘Mikey’ Farrelly, 40, was killed when he was struck by a stolen vehicle on Coast Road, Baldoyle, on July 17, 2024.Since the start of the year, the gang have been operating in south Dublin, Roscommon, Carlow and Kildare.Councillor Jimmy Guerin has called on the Department of Justice to address the gang’s ongoing crime spree.
