More than 50 organizations across the Granite State gathered in Londonderry Saturday to promote the benefits of pursuing a trade career. From landscaping to cosmetology, these organizations all said that events like this one help to teach the benefits of learning trade skills to a younger generation. They said this is especially important now as they expect jobs to start opening up even more as older trade workers start to retire.

The event was hosted by Rye-based nonprofit "Bring Back the Trades." The national nonprofit also supports students of all ages with scholarships that can help them along their path to their dream job. Brody Ouellette was one of those scholarship recipients and he said that awards like this help to take away the financial stress when it comes to higher education.

"The eventual dream is to own a power sports shop," he said. "The money is going to help me be less in debt after I finish schooling and allows me to further my career." Maria Gonzalez also won the $1,500 scholarship and she said this money will help jumpstart her dream to own her own salon.

"Me and my family had financial issues," she said. "So, just getting a scholarship really helped put everything in motion." The state reported that 900 fewer people were employed in trade industries between 2023 and 2024.
