Ian Holt has applied for planning permission to use part of a field next to The Old Red Lion pub in Linton Road, Horseheath, as a place for vehicles to park overnight. If plans are approved, it means the vehicle owners can stay on the field overnight and use services in the pub, such as the restaurant and toilets.

The plans state the pub, which also has guest accommodation, has seen an “increasing number of patrons arrive in RVs or motorhomes”. This has resulted in the vehicles taking up regular parking spaces at the pub. This is “reducing capacity and impacting the experience of other guests and neighbours,” the plans said.

The plans propose to: create a dedicated, screened and gravelled area for up to six RVs; allow overnight stays within the vehicles; ensure all users use the pub’s hospitality service; relieve pressure on the main car park; and reduce parking-related conflict. This is a revised planning application by the applicants, after they previously submitted the same plans in March 2024. The initial application was withdrawn due to concerns raised by the Greater Cambridge Shared Planning authority.

There were concerns that “the proposed use will result in development outside of the development framework”, stated in a letter from the planning authority to the agent. It also said this was “likely to have an adverse impact on the character and appearance of the area” due to “large motor vehicles parked on a prominent corner”. To address previous concerns, the applicants have said: the parking area will be kept “modest in size” and limited to six vehicles.

It will be laid with permeable gravel and remain open, existing hedges will stay with new planting to “soften visibility”, and no hard infrastructure or lighting is proposed. Story Saved You can find this story in My Bookmarks. Or by navigating to the user icon in the top right.
