Mount Pleasant celebrates Capt. Wayne Magwood

Community members gathered on April 17 along Shem Creek for the unveiling of the Captain Wayne Magwood Fisherman's Memorial. The ceremony featured comments by Mayor Will Haynie (at podium) during the opening, followed by a tribute offered courtesy of Magwood's daughter, Tressy Magwood Mellichamp. Dr.

John Panagiotou, Susie Chisolm and Sen. Chip Campsen were also part of the presentation. The late Magwood is recognized as a legendary figure in Mount Pleasant's shrimping industry.



More than 150 donations from individuals and local organizations totaling over $100,000 went into making the statue a reality..
