A MP has claimed that the city’s new coastline park is giving “Miami a run for its money”. Labour MP Peter Kyle for Hove and Portslade praised the new Hove Beach Park in an interview with The Argus. The project, known as Kingsway to the Sea, was established by Brighton and Hove City Council to regenerate the “underused” and “run-down” seafront in West Hove by creating a new park.

Following a public online vote in February 2023, the park was then named Hove Beach Park. “I was very closely involved in Kingsway to the sea. In fact, I signed the original application for having it,” the MP told The Argus.

“This is our city's newest park. I walk past it very often most weeks and see so much activity. "But also, most importantly for me, there is so much intergenerational activity to see, with bowling happening next to paddling and tennis, and then you've got the lagoon activities with the water at the other end.

” Padel courts recently opened on Hove Beach Park (Image: Game4Padel) The project itself has been predominantly funded by the Government . The previous administration even announced additional £1.27 million in funding for the project.

In addition to new routes and pathways created throughout the park, a new outdoor sports hub was developed next to the bowling greens. This includes new public toilets, changing rooms and a café. It is now the new home for Hove and Kingsway Bowls Club.

The MP added: “It is fantastic and it's all along a great piece of coast, coastline with Rock Water there for food and drinks. “We're giving Miami a run for its money. “Just seeing such healthy, relaxed, intergenerational, outdoor activity, it's a total renaissance for our community.

" In March plans were submitted to install illuminated advertising for the new Babble Beach Bar. The venue is set to open later in the spring in the new Outdoor Sports Hub. This was constructed recently as part of the extensive Hove Beach Park development.

Mr Kyle said: “You know, the Victorians, I don't think could have dreamt that the sort of the fresh air ethos that they espoused could be done in such an accessible and flexible way.”.
