Vadodara: A professor from MS University has been appointed vice-chancellor (VC) of Shri Govind Guru University (SGGU) in Godhra, Panchmahal. Dr Hari Kataria, a professor at the department of mathematics and dean of MSU's Faculty of Science, was appointed the new VC of SGGU, the youngest public university in Gujarat. Kataria, who has vast academic and administrative experience, was considered one of the strongest local candidates for the post of MSU VC.
A Bachelor of Science with distinction from St Xavier's College in Ahmedabad, Kataria completed his Master of Science (with distinction) from MSU's Faculty of Science. He also holds a PhD from SVNIT, Surat. "I have been assigned responsibility for this new university, which is the youngest public university of Gujarat.
I will make all efforts for the development of this university," Kataria told TOI. Kataria replaced Professor Pratapsinh Chauhan, who continued as in-charge VC of SGGU after his two terms as VC came to an end. Apart from serving as dean of the Faculty of Science, Kataria served as vice-dean, head of the mathematics department, dean of students, proctor, director of higher payment programmes and senate and syndicate member at MSU, where he continued to be a member of the academic council.
Kataria started his teaching career as a lecturer in 1992 at Talod and later joined MSU in 1997. In all, he has an academic experience spanning 33 years with 18 years of academic administrative experience. He is a reviewer of many reputed international journals and has also served as President of the Gujarat Ganit Mandal.
