Mumbai's eastern suburbs will soon benefit from the first Metro on the DN Nagar to Mandalay Metro 2B route. Ongoing Progress According to Mumbai Metro’s plans, the construction of ‘Metro 2B’ was supposed to be finished by October 2022.
However, due to delays, nearly 98% of the first phase work has now been completed. The Mandalay depot’s construction is also 98% complete, featuring a car shed covering 31.4 hectares, capable of accommodating 72 Metro trains.
Currently, efforts are focused on completing the Metro system, which includes E&M, S&T, track, and MEP works. Construction on the remaining route from Diamond Garden to DN Nagar is still ongoing, with officials indicating the full route will be operational by December 2026. Various tests will be conducted on the Metro route, including checks on platform screen doors, the automatic fare collection system, data storage on the Metro track, monitoring, and quality assurance.
