Axar Patel's left hand was heavily strapped after suffering an injury while fielding during DC vs KKR in New Delhi on Tuesday. Delhi Capitals’ IPL 2025 season began with a bang with the franchise storming to four wins in a row. However, they have now lost three of their last four games that has seen them slip to the fourth spot in the standings but still firmly in the race to qualify for the playoffs.
DC though will be sweating over the fitness of their captain Axar Patel who on Tuesday ended up injuring his hand while fielding against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. During the 18th over of KKR innings, Axar dived to stop the ball at the midwicket region an ended up dragging his left hand on the practice wicket and immediately left the field in pain. He was attended to by DC physio Patrick Farhat and Faf du Plessis took over the captaincy for the last 14 deliveries.
Axar’s left hand was heavily strapped as he sat in the DC dug out. He though walked out to bat at his usual no.5 spot but looked uncomfortable while playing shots while regularly taking off his bottom hand.
Despite the pain, he scored 43 off 23 deliveries but DC failed to chase down the target of 205. The 31-year-old though is hopeful of getting fit for DC’s next game. “My palm dragged on the (practice) wicket, so the skin peeled off.
So, whenever I tried batting, it was paining. It’s good we have three-four days gap before SRH game, so I hope to will get better by then," Patel told broadcasters after the match. Axar has been in fine form with the bat for DC in IPL 2025 in what is also his first season as full-time captain.
He has thus far scored 232 runs at a strike-rate of 161.11 besides taking five wickets as well. DC are currently fourth in the standings and next face Sunrisers Hyderabad next Monday.
