ISLAMABAD - The National Assembly yesterday adopted a unanimous resolution strongly condemning the ongoing heinous wave of atrocities by the Zionist Israeli regime in Gaza and urged the international community to take concrete steps towards recognition and admission of the state of Palestine as a full member of the United Nations (UN). The resolution, moved by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, noted that the latest Israeli offensive re-sumed on March 18 has resulted in the killing of 1600 innocent Palestinians bringing the total toll to over 65,000 deaths in Gaza. It severely rebuked the ruthless destruction of complete civil infrastructure including houses, hospi-tals, schools and places of worship by the barbaric Israeli bombing.
The House expressed unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian brothers and sisters in their just struggle and reaffirmed their inalienable right of self-determination and to their motherland. It was dismayed over the persistent failure of the international community to halt Israeli aggression and called urgently for an immediate permanent and comprehensive ceasefire along with the delivery of uninterrupted and sustainable humanitarian assistance to the besieged and beleaguered Palestini-ans. A potent naval force needed to counter emerging challenges: CNS Admiral Ashraf Earlier, the members demanded the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of Israeli occupying forces from the Gaza strip in line with the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2735 of 2024.
Minister for Law Azam Nazeer Tarar said Israel is committing genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, which is condemnable. He said around sixty-five thousand innocent Palestinians, including women and children, have so far been martyred. He added that around one hundred and thirty thousand are critically injured, while the whereabouts of fifteen thousand people are not known.
He said Pakistan has always supported its Palestinian brethren and extended assistance in the form of food, medicines and other things to them. Taking part in the debate, MNA Sahibzada Hamid Raza demanded of the government to convene a meeting of the OIC in Pakistan on the issue of Palestine. Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, during the Question-Hour, said the Ministry is finalizing its recommendations in this regard. He said that this measure aims to ensure that Hajj Muavineen remain available to assist and guide the Hujjaj throughout their pilgrimage in Makkah. The Minister said under this strategy Hajj Muavineen will not be permitted to wear Ahram while providing their services to the pilgrims during the Hajj days.
He said that the Ministerial Staff termed as Seasonal Staff are deputed for seasonal Hajj duties in Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He said experienced staff is mostly deployed at Madinah Munawarrah and Jeddah Airports, Mission operation Offices, Lost and Found Cell Accommodation, Transportation, Complaint Management, Ha-ram Guide and other duties. He, however, said they are deputed on rotation basis and their selection is made through a transparent selection process.
