The Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) has implemented a new policy to address growing concerns over damaged passports. As part of the updated protocol, airport security personnel are no longer allowed to handle passengers’ passports during terminal entry. Instead, passengers are required to present their own passports or IDs themselves for verification.
“To better protect your travel documents and reduce unnecessary contact, all NAIA security personnel have been instructed not to touch passports during terminal entry and security verification. Passengers will simply be asked to show their valid ID or travel document by holding it up themselves,” said NAIA in a statement posted on Facebook. The policy change comes in response to reports of travelers being denied boarding at an airline check-in counter in NAIA Terminal 3 due to issues with their passports.
NAIA management also clarified that no cases of mishandling by its security personnel have been reported. Regardless, airport authorities recognize the seriousness of the issue and are collaborating with airlines and immigration officials to improve processes and prevent such occurrences in the future.“We are working closely with our airline partners, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), and the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to strengthen procedures and make sure incidents like this do not happen again,” it adds.
While the investigation is ongoing, passengers are encouraged to ensure their passports remain in good condition and to comply with airline-specific requirements to avoid complications during their travels.Stay tuned for updates. The post NAIA implements new protocol: Airport security no longer allowed to touch passports appeared first on Technobaboy.
