Adolescence, a psychological drama centered around the aftermath of the murder of a teenager, has become the third most-watched English-language series ever on Netflix

A new Netflix series that came out just over a month ago is now the third most-watched English-language series of all time on the streaming platform . Since its launch on March 13, Adolescence has amassed more than 124 million views , breaking records just days after it came out. The four-part limited series centers on the aftermath of the death of a teenager named Katie (Emilia Holliday), which sees 13-year-old Jamie (Owen Cooper) being accused of her murder.

The series zones in on the accused boy's father, Eddie Miller (Stephen Graham), his wife Manda (Christine Tremarco) and their daughter Lisa (Amélie Pease) as they grapple with their responsibility for Jamie's action in different ways. The psychological drama, created and based in England, was shot in one continuous take - a technique that removes cuts and creates a sense of realism and increased tension, offering viewers a unique cinematic experience. Adolescence, which has already been renewed for a second season, is now the third most-watched Netflix show ever, behind Stranger Things Season 4 and Wednesday.

It has dethroned Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story from the third podium spot and could become even higher on the list since it's still popular among viewers. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series boasts an overall score of 99% and an audience score of 73%. Fans have also praised the show on social media and after Adolescence hit 24.

3 million views in the first four days since its release, one wrote on Netflix, "Always great to see this happen to the Netflix shows that are actually good for a change." Another said, "Episode 3 was gripping!! The child actor was absolutely brilliant in that episode. Who would have thought its his first acting gig!" A third person added, "The final 'scene' at home between the parents and daughter was just amazing acting.

Between that and the way it was shot you feel like you're on the rollercoaster with them. Insanely gripping show." Someone else continued, "I thought it was very very good, kind of wish there was maybe one more episode, even if four was still powerful.

Kind of made me question how I judged the family initially 'there must be SOME reason!' there wasn't." And one more fan added, "This is such a good show!!!!! I binge watched all four in one sitting and now going to watch more Stephen Graham. Incredible actor.

" Last month Stephen, who co-wrote the smash-hit show alongside Jack Thorne, teased the possibility of a new season , saying, "Possibly, let's see how the figures are. But yeah, there's the possibility of developing another story." The Gangs of New York star confessed that the series' profound societal impact caught him off guard, adding, "I suppose what I'm trying to say is that we had no idea that it would impact socially the way it has, but it seems to have cut through all the race, creed and hierarchical structures of society with the message that it's carrying about our youth.

" Stephen's partner, Hannah Walters, who not only appears on screen as an actor but also serves as an executive producer on the show, echoed her husband's sentiments and expressed her astonishment at the overwhelming response the show has received. She shared, "It's been overwhelming. Somebody sent us an email saying that he'd been in the business for 38 years and had never known anything to have had an impact like that.

We're number one in 80 countries, including Saudi Arabia, India, Australia...

it's just incredible. I didn't think the subject matter would resonate with the world, but it really has." Click here to follow the Mirror US on Google News to stay up to date with all the latest news, sport and entertainment stories.
