Seaford Town Council has announced the appointment of Steve Quayle as the permanent Town Clerk. Mr Quayle, who has been serving as the interim town clerk for the past six months, accepted the role following a full external recruitment process. He brings a wealth of experience, having spent over a decade at East Sussex County Council in a leadership position and holding various roles in the private sector.
He also ran his own business. Councillor Sally Markwell, Mayor of Seaford, said: "I am delighted that Steve Quayle has been appointed. "Having provided an extremely impressive application, he has clearly demonstrated he has the aptitude and capacity to undertake this role.
" Mr Quayle has led various projects successfully since joining the Town Council in October 2024. He has been instrumental in the day-to-day operations, governance, and project delivery of the council. His focus moving forward will be on implementing and embedding the revised staff and committee structures and reviewing the Town Council's 2023–2027 Strategic Plan.
Upon hearing the news of his appointment, Mr Quayle said: "I am delighted to be taking on the permanent role of Town Clerk for Seaford, and would like to sincerely thank councillors for this opportunity to step up as the Chief Executive Officer for the Town Council. "Having acted as the interim town clerk for the last 6 months, I am very well aware of the wealth of opportunities and multiple challenges facing the town council as we move forward, and I very much look forward to continuing my work towards the continuous improvement of Seaford." He praised his team, stating: "I have a first-rate team of officers to support me as I take over this role—all of whom come into work every single day to do their utmost best to improve the lives and environment of the people of Seaford.
" Mr Quayle is poised to lead the council through significant changes stemming from the impending reorganisation of local government. He noted that these changes would be significant for Seaford as it is the largest town in the Lewes District and the second-largest parished town in the county. He concluded: "I cannot wait to get started, and I can promise the residents, visitors, and businesses of the town that my team and I will always work our hardest to provide the best possible service to Seaford.
" The council also expressed gratitude to Spotlight HR for providing external HR consultancy support during the recruitment process, as well as to the other applicants who participated in the process..
