We've still got some huge Premier League games to come, but already there is plenty of excitement building for the summer transfer window. Newcastle United are expected to be active in the coming months as they look to strengthen their squad for next season's European adventure. United have not made a major signing for almost two years, but are ready to dip back into the transfer market to give Eddie Howe more first-team options.
Several positions could be looked at, with talk of a new goalkeeper, central defender, right-sided forward and back-up striker options for Alexander Isak. However, Newcastle won't be the only side looking to do business, with the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United all thought to be busy. Chelsea could steal a march on Newcastle and their Premier League rivals by opening talks for in-demand Borussia Dortmund star Jamie Gittens. The winger is one of the many forwards already linked with United ahead of the summer transfer window, but talkSPORT report the Blues are ready to make their move. The 20-year-old had an explosive start to the season, but has found gametime harder to come by under new manager Niko Kovac and could move on in the summer, especially if Dortmund fail to qualify for the Champions League.
The Bundesliga side are said to value him at around £35m, making him certainly affordable for most Premier League sides. While he can play on either flank, he prefers the left-hand-side, but as Newcastle already have Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes competing in that area, they could focus their attentions elsewhere. Arsenal will end any interest in Alexander Isak by tabling a bid for Sporting Lisbon's Viktor Gyokeres this summer, according to reports in Spain.
The Gunners have made little secret of their need for a striker in the transfer window, but know they are unlikely to be able to come up with a bid that would persuade Newcastle to part with their key man. Instead, they will turn their attentions to Isak's Swedish team-mate Gyokeres, who has impressed in Portugal since signing from Coventry City. Manchester United and Liverpool are also said to be interested, but reports suggest Mikel Arteta and Co are ready to make a firm bid for the 26-year-old, with a £68m deal on the cards.
Wolves striker Matheus Cunha again showed why he is a man in demand with a goal and two assists in their 3-0 win over Leicester City on Saturday. The Brazilian is set to move this summer, with Manchester United, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle and Liverpool all linked with the forward. Reports last week suggested Man United were close to a deal, with a £63m release clause at Molineux, but when asked about his future last weekend, the player refused to be drawn.
