The Los Angeles Rams didn't select a quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft despite weeks of speculation both from the media and the team. The Rams will go into the 2025 season with Matthew Stafford, Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett as their three quarterbacks, and it's unclear long Stafford will remain with the team despite his new contract. While the Rams passed on every quarterback they could have have drafted, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox thinks they'll regret passing on Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders, who the Cleveland Browns ended up picking in the fifth round.
Knox's main reason: With no plan to succeed Stafford, the Rams will eventually need to form a plan for future of their team. And while Sanders has his flaws, he would be a great developmental quarterback for Sean McVay. "General manager Les Snead could have traded out of Round 1 and still added Sanders in the second, third or fourth round.
And while McVay may prefer a quarterback with more high-end physical talent, let's not forget that he went to a Super Bowl with Jared Goff."As long as Stafford is healthy and playing well, Los Angeles is highly unlikely to end up with a top-10 draft selection, meaning it won't simply stumble into many chances to draft a franchise-caliber quarterback without making a trade."The Rams could have explored their avenues for finding a high-ceiling signal-caller in the future while having Sanders in their back pocket on a team-friendly rookie deal.
They didn't and may find themselves scrambling to find a replacement whenever Stafford decides to call it a career."There were also reports the Rams were interested in Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart at the No. 26 pick before the New York Giants traded up to draft him at No.
25. While no one has confirmed this, it meant the Rams could have been thinking about taking a quarterback they liked. Clearly, though, Sanders wasn't one of the ones they were interested in despite the many opportunities to draft him.
L.A. has two first-rounders in 2026 and could target a rookie next year.
Until, though, it's the Stafford show with Garoppolo and Bennett behind him. This article originally appeared on Rams Wire: NFL analyst thinks Rams will regret passing on Shedeur Sanders.
