Full NFL Draft profile for defensive end Jack Sawyer of the Ohio State University

Jack Sawyer was on his way to being a Buckeye hero long before he ran his way into legendary status against Texas in the Cotton Bowl. Sawyer came into Ohio State as a highly-touted local recruit, and in a career full of ups-and-downs cemented his status as the ultimate team player and hard worker, leading the defense emotionally. How much do any of those intangibles translate to the NFL, though? Will any pro teams be so impressed by one scoop and score to raise his draft stock on that alone? Probably not, right?Jack Sawyer, Defensive EndDraft Projection: Round 2-4Sawyer is, much like his college career, a bit of an enigma as we approach the draft.

His intangibles are off the charts. He was certainly the emotional leader of a championship-winning defense. His raw physical talents were still in evidence by his five-star rating out of high school.

And while he didn't quite play like a five-star for much of his college career, he absolutely looked like one at the end of it.How do NFL teams approach him? Is he an elite and versatile edge rusher who can play fill multiple roles on the defensive line? Can they expect him to achieve his full talent consistently over a pro career? If his entire college career had looked like the last few months of 2024, Sawyer would probably be a first rounder. But it didn't.

Sawyer's ceiling in the draft will be determined by if an NFL team thinks they can bring that out in him over his career. If no one sees that in him, though, he could fall to the late fourth round or even a bit lower. This article originally appeared on Buckeyes Wire: Jack Sawyer NFL Draft profile and projection.
