The boss of a new seafront nightclub set to open five days a week has promised there will be no trouble as it prepares for its launch. Wayne Johnson says the finishing touches are being made to Fusion in Cliff Terrace, Margate, ahead of its opening on May 1. Mr Johnson, who ran pubs and clubs in Essex before moving to Thanet in 2019, told KentOnline it could operate every night except Wednesdays and Sundays.

He has also vowed to ensure rowdy drinkers and drunk punters will be kept off the streets and away from the club, and says he has taken extensive measures to appease neighbours. “Every seaside place has nightclubs, but it seems like Margate and Ramsgate are closing up, especially after Covid – if anything was open, it was dead by then, and they never reopened,” said the 53-year-old. “It's just something I've had in my head for a long time, and it's one of those where someone's got to do it, try it, and I thought ‘why not me?’.

“You don't want people coming out and all lingering outside. You want them off and away safely, away from the premises. “We've got phones inside with a direct line to cab firms, it's camera'd up to the hilt, and we won't have any trouble.

” Located in the basement below Bar Nothing, Fusion’s arrival will revive the site as a late-night spot, having previously been known as Krackers and Harriets. Mr Johnson says he believes the use of the location as a nightclub dates back to the 1920s and has a claim to be one of Margate’s oldest. Monday and Tuesday will be party nights aimed at those working in hospitality, with the weekend dedicated to garage, R&B, soul and house music. The next step will be for Mr Johnson to host officers from Thanet District Council to secure a premises licence and opening times for the venue.
