Nintendo’s President has issued an apology as a “significant” number of Switch 2 pre-orders will be left unfulfilled due to demand outstripping their production capabilities. Nintendo Japan began accepting applications for its lottery sale of the Switch 2 on April 2, 2025, via the My Nintendo Store. However, President Shuntaro Furukawa has now announced that a “significant” number of people who entered the lottery for a chance to pre-order the new console won’t make the cut.
On April 23, Furukawa addressed the issue on X, stating: “We received an extremely large number of applications, approximately 2.2 million people in Japan alone. However, this number far exceeds our expectations, and far exceeds the number of Nintendo Switch 2 consoles that can be delivered from the My Nintendo Store on June 5th.
