Noida is poised for a major leap in urban wildlife experiences, as the city prepares to unveil its first-ever Deer Park and Sunset Safari at the Biodiversity Park in Sector 91. The ambitious project, recently greenlit by the Central Zoo Authority (CZA), promises to transform 30 acres of green space into a vibrant sanctuary for both native and exotic deer species and a unique night-time safari destination for residents and tourists alike. This new facility will be the first of its kind in both Noida and Ghaziabad, filling a longstanding gap in the region’s recreational and conservation offerings.
The park is designed to house 132 deer from 10 different species, including native varieties such as chital, sambar, swamp deer, barking deer, hog deer, mouse deer and blackbucks. Notably, the park will also feature African antelopes like the springbok, impala, wildebeest and lesser kudu, which will be imported to enrich the biodiversity on display. Deer will be sourced from established zoos in Lucknow, Kanpur and Hyderabad, while rescued animals from the Noida International Airport area and a new rescue centre near Dhanauri Wetland will also find a safe haven here.
To ensure the highest standards of animal care and habitat design, the Noida Authority has enlisted the expertise of a retired district forest officer, who will oversee the preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) and guide the park’s development in line with national and CZA norms. The expert’s input is particularly crucial for acclimatising the African species to the local climate and for creating enclosures that mimic natural habitats, thereby supporting the animals’ well-being. The park’s infrastructure will include a veterinary care unit, quarantine zones, walkways, viewing platforms, food stalls, souvenir shops and essential amenities for visitors.
Security will be ensured by a two-metre-high boundary wall and 30% of the park’s area will be preserved as a green belt with natural vegetation. A standout feature of the new park is the Sunset Safari, which will allow visitors to observe deer and aquatic birds until 10 pm, well after dusk. This is made possible by spectrum lighting technology, which provides clear visibility for humans while maintaining a natural, night-like environment for the animals.
This innovation ensures that the animals’ natural behaviours are undisturbed, offering an immersive and educational wildlife experience. Beyond recreation, the Deer Park and Sunset Safari are envisioned as hubs for conservation, public education and eco-tourism. The facility will offer guided tours, interpretive signage, workshops and interactive exhibits aimed at raising awareness about biodiversity and habitat protection.
It will also support scientific research on deer ecology and conservation strategies, while generating revenue through entry fees and eco-friendly activities. The Rs 40 crore project was approved by the Noida Authority Board in June 2024 and construction is set to begin once the DPR is finalised and tenders are awarded. The entire facility is expected to be developed in a single phase, with the aim of delivering a world-class wildlife experience in the heart of Noida as swiftly as possible.
