Despite the long lines and blistering heat, a lot of them were open for quick interviews or a brief chat of how they became a fan of the late National Artist. Meanwhile, others came from far areas in Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao just to witness the late screen veteran for the last time.

“Kahit napakalayo namin, tiniis namin pumunta dito para makita lamang ang aming iniidolo dahil minahal siya ng masang Pilipino,” one RR Arcidera from Samar told INQUIRER.net in an interview. “Talagang sabi ko, ‘Ate Guy, ito ang huling sandali na makita ka,’ isang fans club na napakalayo [ng pinanggalingan] at kahit malayo, pinursige namin.

As the public viewing was about to end at four in the afternoon, many fans took the time to interact and sing “Superstar ng Buhay Ko” and “Handog.” Aunor died of acute respiratory failure on Wednesday, April 16, according to her son Ian de Leon.

She was 71 years old. The late screen veteran’s wake will continue until Monday, April 21, and her internment and state funeral will be held on April 22. Further details are yet to be revealed.
