Notorious burglar with multiple cases arrested in Prayagraj

1 2 Prayagraj: In a major development, a joint team of Civil Lines police , Special Operation Group (SOG), and surveillance cell on Tuesday arrested a notorious burglar identified as Rakesh Kumar Saroj (36), a resident of Hathigaon (Pratapgarh) and seized stolen gold jewellery weighing around 50 grams, Rs 4.98 lakh in cash, and one car from his possession. The arrested burglar has a criminal record, with more than 20 cases, including 15 in Delhi alone, registered against him across the country.

The arrest of the burglar was made near Rajapur graveyard road while he was planning to escape. DCP (City) Abhishek Bharti told TOI that a group of three burglars had executed a burglary at the house of the Assistant Commissioner (GST) located at a posh apartment on Thornhill Road under the limits of Civil Lines police station on April 14 this year. Following the incident, an FIR under section 3(5) 331 (4), 305, 317 (2), 317 (4), and 112 (2) of BNS was registered.



When the joint police teams started investigating the case, the cops found that the group of burglars arrived at the site of the incident in an SUV and executed the burglary after breaking the main door of the flat. The burglar's gang used to target locked houses in posh colonies across the country. The burglars also prefer to wear masks to avoid being identified in CCTVs and alwys execute thefts in groups.

They used to carry lock-breaking apparatus and travelled in SUVs from one city to another. Additional DCP (City) Abhijeet Kumar told TOI that as many as 20 criminal cases, including 15 in Delhi, one each in Surat (Gujarat), Lucknow (UP), Vardhman (WB), Kanpur (UP), and Prayagraj (UP), were registered against Rakesh Kumar Saroj, who travelled from one state to another to execute thefts and burglaries. He added, "The notorious thief was residing at a rented accommodation in Delhi.
