New Delhi: The trailer of Now You See Me: Now You Don’t was released by Lionsgate Movies on April 29 2025. It is the sequel to Now You See Me (2013) and Now You See Me 2 (2016), starring Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher and Morgan Freeman reprising their roles from the previous movies in the franchise. New additions to the cast include Justice Smith, Dominic Sessa, Ariana Greenblatt.
The movies in the Now You See Me series revolve around a group of magicians who undertake bank heists, the earnings of which they distribute to their audiences. FBI and Interpol agents attempt to track them down and bring them in. How the third iteration looks to fare While both the iterations of the Now You See Me films have been popular and successful, they have not come in without their fair share of criticism.
The general criticisms revolve around the plotline being all over the place, with the films starting off on the theme of magic but going forward and devolving into action sequences and car chases. The stellar ensemble cast does a good job, but being unable to choose its own genre and a confusion in theme is what has come to be problematic. In the new trailer, while not much is shown, the question whether it resolves its thematic confusions can be gauged at a little.
It starts with a proposition on magic, and a robbery is also involved. This time a valuable diamond. The old gang of magicians cum robbers is joined by three new, young entrants but there seems to be not much difference in the way they go about in their action.
The antics look similar, as do the visuals. The entry of police and how they fight them off through their ‘magic’ tricks also remains the same. All in all, there appears no new innovation, either in storytelling or craft.
Like many other popular Hollywood franchises, the new film looks to build on what made the previous ones successful. Change is feared and they look to the predictable plot repeatedly. The movie looks to be made for those who are already fans of the franchise, a cash cow that the makers want to continue milking but with no genetic mutations allowed.
