Former President and UNP leader Ranil Wickremesinghe yesterday told UNP candidates, contesting Colombo and Kalutara districts, that in spite of NPP declaration that it could win the vast majority of Local Government authorities at the 06 May election, the situation on the ground was not favourable to the government. Addressing the candidates and party officials at Sirikotha, Wickremesinghe emphasised that the NPP wouldn’t be able to secure the majority at LG bodies and, therefore, other parties could join forces to control them. Wickremesinghe said that he didn’t know about the breakaway UNP faction, the SJB, but they, too, would positively respond when all others got together.
