Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has officially inaugurated a 30 MVA power substation built by Geometric Power Limited at Ogbor Hill, Aba, in Abia State. At the commissioning ceremony, Obasanjo praised the management of Geometric Power and Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, for their commitment to providing reliable electricity within the Aba ring-fenced area.

He also called for the extension of the project to Umuahia and other parts of the state.“Aba is the centre of industry, and it has suffered due to inadequate power supply. I am now pleased with what Geometric Power has achieved.

When I first encouraged them, I wasn’t sure what would result from it. It was an experiment. But seeing the outcome today, I’m glad I supported it,” Obasanjo said.

He added, “If you had given up, there would be nothing to celebrate today. When I was invited, I had no clear expectations, but you’ve exceeded them. I now urge you to urgently extend this project to include the eight local government areas not yet served.

Energy is crucial to development, and it has the power to transform any institution.”Governor Alex Otti, speaking at the event, reflected on his role in assisting Geometric Power’s revival, particularly in supporting fundraising efforts. He also acknowledged Obasanjo’s pivotal role in granting the initial licence to Geometric Power and in establishing the Aba ring-fenced electricity distribution area, well ahead of the Federal Government’s approval for states to regulate power.

Governor Otti committed to ensuring that the surplus power generated by Geometric Power would be extended to Umuahia and confirmed that plans were underway to acquire the Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC).Earlier in the ceremony, the Chairman and CEO of the Geometric Group, Prof. Barth Nnaji, provided a comprehensive overview of the Aba Integrated Power Project, expressing gratitude to Obasanjo, Governor Otti, and previous administrations in Abia State for their ongoing support in bringing the project to fruition.

Additionally, the Managing Director of Aba Power Limited, Barr. Ugochukwu Opiegbe, announced plans to begin mass metering across all areas within the Aba ring-fenced zone in the near future. The post Obasanjo commissions new 30 MVA substation in Abia appeared first on Nigerian NewsDirect.
