According to North Charleston police spokesperson Harve Jacobs, officers attempted to pull over the box truck at the intersection of Dorchester and Meeting Street roads. The driver refused to stop and took of down Dorchester Road before getting on Interstate 26 going east toward downtown.

A box truck crashed on Meeting Street the evening of April 26, 2025, after a pursuit with North Charleston police following an attempted traffic stop on Dorchester Road. The chase continued down I-26 to Septima P. Clark Parkway, commonly known as the Crosstown, Jacobs said.



The box truck turned left toward King Street, and North Charleston police ended their pursuit at the intersection of Columbus and King streets. Charleston Police are on scene at a fatal collision on Meeting Street near Mary Street. Meeting Street is currently closed between Mary Street and Spring Street.

Jacobs said North Charleston officers rendered aid at the scene of the crash. Multiple injuries were reported, and there was one confirmed death from the incident. Charleston police announced on X at 5:38 p.

The truck sat parked on the side of the road, with its back gate up and emergency hazard lights on. It appeared to have a couch and multiple mattresses packed into its read compartment. Yellow police tape snaked along the sidewalk and across the roadway, blocking access to the site.

Several people milled about watching the scene shortly after 7 p.m., but all said they did not witness the crash.
