Joseph’s Academy tennis team dominated the Division I girls field at the LHSAA’s State Tennis tournament that concluded Tuesday in Monroe. “I thought it was a valid argument last year when we won,” Howard said. “And I think it’s even more valid this year.



We scored 21.5 points and I’m not sure there are many ways you could score more than that. “We had the top two doubles teams and we had the singles championship.

Our other singles player advanced to the semifinals. Some of the matches were tough. We were able to dominate team wise.

Dominican and Mt. Carmel each had six points. It is the fifth straight girls title for the Redstickers and second with Howard as their head coach.

Ella Mancuso defeated Mandeville’s Ciara Sergi 6-4, 7-5 in an intense singles final for SJA. In the all-Redstickers doubles final Laura Caroline Holliday and Cameron Raines defeated Adeline Hedges and Ryland Stafford 7-6, 7-5. “Just like last year, we prepared for this by playing some tough out-of-state teams,” Howard said.

“We were prepared for everything we saw at this tournament. EHS, St. John advance With medalist Sophia Macias leading the way, the Episcopal girls golf team placed second at the Division II, Region 2 girls golf tournament held Tuesday at the Santa Maria Golf Course.

Macias, a Tulane signee, shot a 2-under-par 70 to finish two strokes ahead of Academy of Sacred Heart’s Jane Neves. Sacred Heart edged the Knights for the team title by two strokes, 156 to 154. St.

John, led by sixth-place finisher Saige Berthelot, finished at 195, a score that was good enough to secure the final team qualifying spot. Berthelot carded an 85. Parkview, GOHS excel Parkview Baptist won the girls team title, while Glen Oaks the boys runner-up at the Class 3A, Region II track meet held Monday at McNeese, The Eagles scored 107 points, finishing ahead of St.

Louis Catholic (89.5) and Lake Charles College Prep (71). LCCP won the boys title with 124 points, ahead of GOHS (79) and Parkview (72.

5). Distances runners Lucy Cramer and Aiden Monistere swept the girls/boys distance events — the 800-, 1,600 and 3,200 to lead Parkview. Catron Hargrove was the 400- and 200 meters champion to set the pace for Glen Oaks.
