Read More When we talk about the most successful actresses in Indian cinema, Sridevi’s name stands tall. With over 300 films to her credit, she ruled both Bollywood and South Indian cinema, earning admiration from actors, directors, and fans alike. But beyond the spotlight, there’s a lesser-known story about her real sister, Srilatha.
Sridevi enjoyed a decades-long career and became the highest-paid actress of her time. From her early days in the south to her rise in Bollywood, she worked relentlessly, and later married film producer Boney Kapoor. In her early years, Sridevi shared a close bond with Srilatha.
But while Sridevi soared to stardom, Srilatha remained away from fame. Over time, distance crept into their relationship, eventually leading to complete silence between the two. Srilatha Became Sridevi’s Manager When Sridevi began her career in the 1970s, Srilatha often accompanied her to film sets, acting as her shadow.
She was frequently seen at award functions and industry events. It is said that Srilatha also aspired to enter the film industry but ended up managing her sister’s career instead. As Sridevi soared to new heights, Srilatha supported her at every step, handling much of her work.
Initially, their mother managed their affairs, but after their mother’s death, tensions arose between the sisters. The Rift Begins In 1996, Sridevi’s mother was hospitalised, and it was alleged that a botched operation weakened her memory. Unfortunately, her health did not improve, and she passed away.
Furious, Sridevi sued the hospital for malpractice and won compensation of Rs 7.2 crore, which she reportedly kept. According to the Deccan Chronicle , all property belonging to Sridevi, acquired through her fame, was kept in her parents’ name as she was a minor.
According to reports, Sridevi transferred their mother’s property to her name, angering Srilatha. This incident marked the beginning of their rift, leading Srilatha to sue for her share of the property, claiming their mother was mentally unstable. Srilatha received Rs 2 crore, further straining their relationship.
Attempts At Reconciliation Sridevi’s husband Boney Kapoor tried to reconcile the sisters. In 2013, when Sridevi received the Padma Shri award, rumours circulated that the sisters had mended their differences as Srilatha organised a family ceremony. However, there was no formal confirmation, and the sisters were neither seen together nor commented on their relationship.
When Sridevi passed away suddenly, Srilatha did not attend the prayer meeting in Chennai. Sources claimed that Srilatha was asked to remain silent and stay out of the spotlight. There were also rumours that Srilatha would be given the rights to the Chennai bungalow.
