Defenders in the National Football League is going to have to deal with another Herbert. After the 2025 NFL draft, Oregon Duckstight end Patrick Herbert signed wth the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent Saturday night. He joined big brother Justin Herbert to play on the next level.
But as an undrafted free agent, there are no guarantees. Patrick Herbert will have to play his way onto the roster. However, battling adversity and working harder than everyone else isn't new to Herbert.
He battled several injuries and spent more time on the trainer's table than he did on the field. Nonetheless, Herbert turned into a successful tight end for the Ducks. He flourished until the offensive system of Will Stein.
As the No. 2 tight end, Herbert's stats don't exactly stick out like a sore thumb, but he still was able to play in all 28 games for the last two seasons. His best season was in 2023, where Herbert had 15 catches for 196 yards and three touchdowns.
In this past season, Herbert had just 10 catches for 97 yards, but he also played behind Terrance Ferguson and up-and-comer Kenyon Sadiq, so finding his spots to catch the ball were few and far between. The Jaguars are most likely attracted to his perseverance, as Herbert had several chances to quit the sport due to multiple knee and leg injuries. His 6-foot-5, 250-pound frame doesn't hurt either.
He was a four-star prospect coming into Oregon out of Sheldon High School in Eugene and was the No. 6 tight end in the country. The talent has always been there.
If he can stay healthy, Herbert can be a productive player on the next level.Contact/Follow @Ducks_Wire on X (formerly Twitter) and like our page on Facebook to follow ongoing coverage of Oregon Ducks news, notes, and opinions. This article originally appeared on Ducks Wire: 2025 NFL draft: Oregon TE Patrick Herbert signs with Jaguars.
