Qatar tribune Overseas Pakistanis have welcomed Pakistan Telecommunication Authority’s (PTA) initiative to register their mobile devices for temporary use for a period of up to 120 days during their visit to the country. According to the press release issued by the telecom authority on April 25, 2025, Temporary Mobile Registration System has been launched to help overseas Pakistanis and foreign visitors use their phones during their stay. Under this initiative, temporary visitors can register their personal mobile devices for a period of up to 120 days, and this facility can be availed during each visit to Pakistan, exempting them from taxes.

This initiative is part of the authority’s broader efforts to enhance user convenience and ensure seamless mobile connectivity for all visitors to the country. The move will facilitate smoother communication and will help visitors avoid disruptions caused by the blocking of unregistered mobile devices on local networks. This user-centric system is designed to ensure uninterrupted mobile connectivity for visitors, supporting ease of communication during their stay in Pakistan.



This free of cost registration process is fully digitized and can be completed through the official Device Registration System portal at: https://dirbs.pta.gov.

Currently, overseas Pakistanis can use an imported phone with a single SIM for up to 60 days. After this period, the device will become non-operational unless the user pays the required taxes for its regularisation. Under the new system, the overseas Pakistanis would register one number of mobile phone as overseas Pakistanis.
