Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has announced that a former governor of the state, Dr. Omololu Olunloyo, who passed away on April 6, will be given a dignified state burial.Makinde made the statement on Tuesday during a condolence visit to the late statesman’s family in Molete, Ibadan.
He revealed that plans for the state funeral, which would appropriately reflect Olunloyo’s legacy and prominence, were already underway, with both his government and the family collaborating on the arrangements.Describing Olunloyo as a towering figure in the political and intellectual landscape of Oyo State, Governor Makinde acknowledged the former governor’s significant contributions to governance, mathematics, and public service over several decades. He added that Olunloyo had inspired many individuals through his dedication and work.
Makinde further emphasised that Olunloyo was more than just a former governor; he was a brilliant mind, a respected leader, and a symbol of integrity and excellence.During his visit, the governor was received by Mrs. Aderonke Olunloyo, the late politician’s wife.
Born in 1935, Dr. Olunloyo was one of Nigeria’s earliest PhD holders in Mathematics. He served as the governor of the old Oyo State for three months in 1983 under the platform of the defunct National Party of Nigeria.
