Pahalgam Terror Attack: Pakistan government X account withheld

The Pakistan Government's official account on X, formerly Twitter, has been withheld by the platform. The account of the Pakistan government (@GovtofPakistan) is no longer accessible to users in India. The account was held in response to a legal demand from the Indian government.

This indicates X was requested to withhold the specified account in response to a valid legal demand, such as a court order. According to X's policies, if X receives a valid and properly scoped request from an authorised entity (government), it may be necessary to withhold access to certain content in a particular country from time to time. In addition, such withholdings will be limited to the specific jurisdiction that has issued the valid legal demand or where the content has been found to violate local law.

This comes after the terror attack in Pahalgam in Kashmir on April 22, where 26 people were killed. The attack was allegedly carried out by a banned organisation, the Resistance Front. The attack has drawn global condemnation, with many expressing solidarity with India.

Previously, in a response to the attack, the Indian government announced a series of actions, including ordering Pakistani nationals in India on a special SAARC visa to leave the country within 48 hours.
