Two Bishop McCort Catholic High School senior cheerleaders announced their college commitments Wednesday.Madison Adams will attend Morehead State University in Kentucky, and Gianna Trexler will attend St. Francis University in Loretto.
Adams and Trexler participated in a signing ceremony at the high school, with teammates and veteran cheer coach John Walker attending.Both Adams and Trexler were part of the Crimson Crushers 2023 team that won the PIAA District 6 championship, claimed a PIAA crown and placed first in the Universal Cheerleaders Association (UCA) national high school championship small varsity Division II event.“I like the town and the cheer program.
They’re very talented girls,” Adams said of Morehead State University.“Bishop McCort prepared me so tremendously and I enjoyed every moment of it,” added Adams, who intends to pursue a degree in nursing.“The girls and the coaches, they really prepare us in every way.
“They just show love and they’re always there supporting us.”She is the daughter of Jason and Terra Adams.Trexler said the experience gained during the 2023 championship season was a memorable high point.
“It was really amazing,” said Trexler, who will major in pediatric nursing at St. Francis. “It was just a great experience.
“It feels amazing to be a part of a family with all of my sisters. I have so many bonds with them.”Her time at Bishop McCort set a foundation for Trexler, who is eager to begin a new chapter.
“I think it’s a huge step in my career for cheerleading,” Trexler said.“This is an amazing opportunity. I’m excited for this journey.
”She is the daughter of Rhonda Trexler.Walker has coached cheerleading at Bishop McCort for 37 years. His teams have produced six national championships since 2010.
The Crimson Crushers also have had many cheerleaders advance to the college ranks, including to the NCAA Division I level.“It’s so nice to see these two girls added to the list of girls and the tradition we have here at Bishop McCort,” Walker said.“We love to see our girls succeed in the classroom and in life.
