ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday made it clear that Pakistan shall defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity with full force in case of any misadventure by India and encouraged the UN Secretary-General to counsel India to act responsibly and exercise restraint. The prime minister held a telephonic conversation with the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, which focused on recent developments in South Asia.

During the telephone call, the prime minister affirmed that Pakistan condemns terrorism in all its forms and manifestations, while highlighting the significant sacrifices rendered by the country in the global war against terrorism. He reiterated his call for a transparent and neutral investigation into the incident.



PM Shehbaz expressed serious concerns over India’s widely documented state-sponsored terrorism in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir and its attempts to delegitimise the Kashmiri freedom struggle by using the bogey of “terrorism”. He particularly highlighted India’s weaponization of the waters of the Indus Basin as unacceptable, while noting that water is the lifeline of 240 million people. The prime minister emphasised that the unresolved issue of Jammu and Kashmir remains the root cause of instability in South Asia, and urged the UN Secretary-General to play his role for its just resolution, in accordance with relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council.

On the occasion, the UN Secretary-General appreciated Pakistan’s efforts for peace in South Asia and said that the world could not afford any escalation in the region at a crucial time. Pakistan on Tuesday intensified its diplomatic outreach amid rising tension with India after a deadly attack on tourists in occupied Kashmir.

In a day marked by high-level diplomatic engagements, Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to regional peace while vehemently rejecting “baseless propaganda” and provocative actions from India. A series of telephonic exchanges with key allies, including the United Arab Emirates, Hungary, Kuwait, and Bahrain, underscored Islamabad’s proactive foreign policy posture in light of escalating regional tensions. Both the leaders expressed a shared resolve to enhance bilateral ties and advance mutual goals of peace, regional stability, and sustainable development. Sheikh Abdullah emphasized the importance of dialogue, restraint, and peaceful conflict resolution, while reaffirming the strong fraternal bond between the two nations, the Foreign Office said. This diplomatic interaction coincided with Dar’s parallel outreach to the Foreign Ministers of Hungary, Kuwait, and Bahrain.

In his conversation with Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, DPM Dar strongly rejected India’s recent actions, including its decision to unilaterally suspend the Indus Waters Treaty, an act Pakistan considers a blatant violation of international law. The Hungarian Foreign Minister stressed the necessity of dialogue and peaceful means to defuse tensions, the FO said. No evidence provided by India to substantiate baseless allegations against Pakistan: DG ISPR Speaking with Kuwaiti Foreign Minister Abdullah Ali Al-Yahya, DPM Dar updated him of India’s “illegal and unilateral measures” and reiterated Pakistan’s principled stance on maintaining regional peace.

In return, Kuwait assured Islamabad of its continued support and reaffirmed the long-standing brotherly relations between the two countries, the FO said. DPM Dar also spoke with Bahraini Foreign Minister Dr. Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani.

According to the FO, the two leaders discussed India’s increasing belligerence and its potential impact on regional stability. Both the ministers expressed the intent to deepen bilateral cooperation and uphold shared interests rooted in mutual respect and regional solidarity. On the multilateral front, Counsellor Jawad Ajmal delivered a strong statement at the launch of the “Victims of Terrorism Association Network” at the United Nations.

He asserted that Pakistan possesses credible evidence of externally sponsored terrorism, citing the recent attack on the Jaffar Express, which claimed over 30 innocent lives. Ajmal condemned all forms of terrorism, including state-sponsored violence and ideologies rooted in Islamophobia and racial hatred. Tags: pakistan defend sovereignty.
