PHILADELPHIA -- When the Philadelphia 76ers brought in Paul George in the 2024 offseason, the idea was that he and Joel Embiid would run a two-man game on the offensive end as Philadelphia tried to make that next step forward on a run to the title.Unfortunately, the Sixers didn't see much of that pairing. The duo played in only 18 games together in the 2024-25 season as injuries derailed any type of championship plans.
Per PbP Stats, George and Embiid had a net rating of -5.70. So, even when they did play, it wasn't the most effective duo.
As George and the Sixers head into the offseason, he gave his thoughts on what he and Embiid can look like when they're healthy."I think this year has given me a good chance to kinda work on that chemistry on court," George said of his pairing with Embiid. "Obviously, chemistry off court has gotten better, but the chemistry on court I think it was a good lesson for me to kinda see and experience to kinda be on the floor with him to see what works.
How can I play off him? How can we play together? I think that’s a continued relation to build on the court."The two of them will need to continue growing together on the floor in order for the Sixers to find any type of success. Philadelphia has a lot invested in both players and they will need to continue talking and growing trust in one another along with chemistry so they can bounce back from what was a dreadful season.
"It just comes down to trust in one another," George finished. "Trust in our process. That’ll get better all year.
He was letting me know ‘Hey, you can play this way. You can do this. You can do that.
’ So that kinda helped with getting me adjusted and acclimated to the team, but I don’t see that being a problem. We both look forward to it, and I think again, it’s a better understanding from both of us, I think, going into the next year."This article originally appeared on Sixers Wire: Paul George reveals what comes next for himself, Joel Embiid for 76ers.
