Adding some houseplants into the living room or bedroom is a great way to inject some life and colour into your home. And if you're a plant novice, there are plenty which are fairly easy to look after - one of these being the peace lily . These pretty plants have distinctive glossy dark green leaves with beautiful white flowers but, although they are fairly low-maintenance, getting them to keep producing new blooms and leaves can be tricky.
Thankfully, one plant expert on social media has provided some helpful guidance on exactly how to do this. Garden Home Mania on TikTok says you can get your peace lily to thrive again by carrying out one easy task. The expert hailed peace lilies as 'very easy to care for' which is what makes them such a popular choice.
However, if you want them to thrive, then there's one key thing that you have to keep in mind. One reason why your peace lily may have stopped producing more leaves and flowers is because it needs repotting, as the roots have grown too big for the current pot. This is a fairly simple task to carry out, but there's one mistake that must be avoided - and that's using a pot that is too big or too small.
The pro explained: "When repotting, choose a pot that's just the right size. Not too large, but big enough to allow the roots to spread comfortably." Loose, slightly acidic oil is best for peace lilies, maintaining temperatures between 18 and 25C.
The positioning of your plant is also hugely important. While peace lilies can tolerate shade, they will struggle to flower without adequate light, so 'bright and indirect' light is key. It's also important to make sure your peace lily is getting enough water, because the leaves and flowers will dry out if they aren't hydrated enough.
To know when to give them a drink, check the surface of the soil with your fingers - and if it's dry then pour in some water. Always water at the soil, ensuring any excess is drained out via the holes at the bottom of the pot..
