Pedestrian dies after two people hit by car at showground north of Newcastle

The elderly woman was taken to hospital but couldn’t be saved.

An elderly pedestrian has died after she and another person were struck by a car at a NSW showground on Thursday. Two women, aged 72 and 82, were both hit by the car about 1.30pm on Cowper St in Stroud, a country town about an hour north of Newcastle , NSW Police said.

The older woman was critically injured in the crash. Know the news with the 7NEWS app: Download today Both women were treated at the scene, before paramedics took the 82-year-old woman to John Hunter Hospital with critical injuries. She died in hospital the following night, police were told about 9.



30pm. The 68-year-old woman who was allegedly behind the wheel of the car that struck the women was taken to Maitland Hospital for mandatory testing. Investigations into the crash are ongoing and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
