The Last of Us viewers have been left shocked by a dramatic twist in the second episode of Season 2, with Joel Miller actor Pedro Pascal now speaking out

SPOILER ALERT: This story contains spoilers for Season 2, Episode 2 of The Last of Us. Pedro Pascal has spoken out after his character was killed off in the latest episode of The Last of Us. In the second episode of Season 2 , Pedro's character Joel was beaten to death by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).

The shocking moment has left Pedro in denial, though he knew his character would eventually die as Joel is also killed in The Last of Us video game, which the program is based on. Abby’s act of revenge came after Joel killed her father, a doctor who was going to operate on Ellie to create a cure for the Cordyceps infection . Speaking out after the shocking moment, Pedro admitted, "I'm in active denial.

" The actor continued, "I realize this more and more as I get older, I find myself slipping into denial that anything is over. I know that I'm forever bonded to so many members of the experience and just have to see them under different circumstances, but never will under the circumstances of playing Joel." Speaking to Entertainment Weekly , Pedro admitted, "I don't spend a lot of time thinking about it because it makes me sad.

" He also spoke to HBO during the official The Last of Us after show and said he has "nothing but respect" for how passionate fans are about the program. He added, "I experience that myself. I've flung books across the room because its impact is so profound on me and experiencing the story.

I think it is incredibly painful for people and that's obviously a brilliant achievement of the storytelling." Bella Ramsey, who stars alongside Pedro as Ellie, also spoke out about the episode. They said, "I knew that Joel was going to die but reading it in the script I was dreading getting to that bit.

.. and I cried.

I actually sobbed my little heart out." The Last Of Us co-creator Craig Mazin explained why they decided Season 2's second episode was the right time for Joel to die. "There's a danger of tormenting people," he told Variety .

Craig added, "It's not what we want to do. If people know it's coming, they will start to feel tormented. And people who don't know it's coming are going to find out it's coming, because people are going to talk about the fact that it hasn't shown up yet.

Our instinct was to make sure that when we did it, that it felt natural in the story and was not some meta-function of us wanting to upset people." The Last of Us continues on Sunday, April 27, 2025.
