PHILADELPHIA— Even in the face of adversity, Christian Brothers refused to be denied. The boys distance medley relay was playing out completely differently from last year, where Christian Brothers steadily bulit a commanding lead with each leg. For the first three legs of the race, the meet was wire-to-wire, with CBA falling as far back as third place and trading the lead a few times between teams like Ridgefield (CT) and Episcopal Academy (PA).
But it didn’t matter. Ryan Schmitt, Ethan Fianko, Wyatt Falkowski always kept CBA in a position to win during the race, and North Carolina commit Joe Barrett did a sensational job of bringing it home for the Colts, who took home their second consecutive Championship of America title at the 2025 Penn Relays with a time of 9:59.17.
The time ranks ninth all-time in state history and resets their own Shore Conference record. It’s the program fifth wheel in this event, having won in 1985, 1988, 2011 and 2024. “This is just so important to us,” Barrett said.
“As historic of a program like we are, these Penn Relays wheels mean so much to us. One wheel is great and all, but two wheels in two years is better than one in two years. And just being the anchor, being able to finish off a great DMR.
I was so excited.” This story will be updated. Please check back later.
