Thursday marks the 129th running of the Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia. Below, find the N.J.
outlook for the boys long jump. Boys long jump When: Thursday at 10 a.m.
Qualifiers: Liam Paneque, Demarest Jersey outlook: Paneque makes his second straight appearance at Penn Relays following a fifth place finish in long jump last year. It was a terrific moment for the Demarest senior to medal after barely missing the cutoff in 2023, but the long jump field is much more competitive this year. Practically everyone in the field can go 22 feet or higher, and six different jumpers have PRs of 24 feet or higher.
But Paneque has established himself as one of the nation’s best jumpers over the last year - he finished the 2024 N.J. outdoor season with a MOC-winning jump of 25-2, which was the sixth best mark in the nation.
If he can get his approach down and execute all phases of his jump, he has a chance of winning a gold watch on Thursday. Last N.J.
champion: Gregory Foster, who registered a jump of 24-11 to win the event in 2022. Foster ended a 19-year drought of N.J.
