Pensioner, 74, attacked by gang of men in early-morning robbery

A pensioner was attacked by a gang of thieves during the early hours of the morning.

A pensioner was attacked by a gang of thieves during the early hours of the morning. Officers say the 74-year-old man was threatened and assaulted by four men in Clydesdale Street in Motherwell at around 2.45am on Sunday.

The group then stole a Volkswagen Transporter Van containing electrical tools. The men are said to have been wearing dark-coloured clothing and hiding their faces. They also wore gloves and spoke with local accents.

Investigations so far have revealed that the four men were hanging around in the street before entering the house. Officers are continuing door-to-door enquiries and will be reviewing CCTV footage.
