20pm on 12 February. Taaffe knocked on the victim’s door and had a brief conversation with him, before leaving and walking away down the road. Twenty minutes later, Taaffe knocked again but before the victim could answer the door, he began punching, kicking and slashing at the front door with a knife.

Taaffe also used the knife to slash the victim’s van which was parked outside the house. Taaffe’s damage spree was halted when he cut his hand on his knife, causing him to throw it into a nearby bush and leave the scene. Officers arrived and arrested Taaffe, taking him to Thorpe Wood Police Station.

On Wednesday (16 April) at Peterborough Crown Court, Taaffe, of Taverners Road, Peterborough, was jailed for four months after pleading guilty to two counts of criminal damage and one count of possessing a knife in a public place. PC Daniel Barnett, who investigated, said: “There is no excuse for carrying a knife, let alone brazenly using it to damage innocent victims’ property. “The fact that Taaffe cut his hand on his own knife just shows the dangers and risks of carrying one.

I am pleased he is now behind bars.”.
