PETERBOROUGH — Rite Aid in Peterborough is closing, and prescriptions will be transferred to the CVS in town, a spokesperson for CVS said Monday. CVS has purchased the Peterborough Rite Aid's prescription files, and service will begin Wednesday, May 7, at the CVS location at 125 Dublin Road, Amy Thibault, the spokesperson, said in an email. A Rite Aid spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment Monday.

The impending closure is occurring during a nationwide sell off of Rite Aid locations as the pharmacy chain considers filing for bankruptcy a second time since 2023, The Wall Street Journal reported . On April 16, Keene's Rite Aid location closed after selling its prescription files to Keene's CVS. "The transfer will be seamless for patients," Thibault said.

She previously declined to say how many patients are affected by moves like this. The closest Rite Aid locations to Peterborough are in Jaffrey and Winchester..
