Pictures show a search and rescue operation for a possible person in the water on the seafront. HM Coastguard and RNLI teams are currently carrying out a search and rescue operation near Brighton Palace Pier. Emergency services were alerted to a report of a person in the water at around 4am today, April 16.

A spokeswoman for HM Coastguard said: "HM Coastguard is responding to reports of a possible person in the water in the Brighton Palace Pier area this morning, April 16. "Alerted at around 4am, Shoreham and Newhaven Coastguard Rescue Teams, lifeboats from Shoreham and Brighton RNLI and a coastguard search and rescue helicopter have been sent to assist.".
