Pune: The Pimpri Chinchwad police have started a mobile messenger-based application for citizens on a pilot basis to report traffic-related issues, including traffic rule violations, traffic congestion and bad roads. Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey said citizens can click and upload images to this application. The traffic police will act promptly and the person will be alerted about the action being taken on their complaint.

"People do not necessarily need to download this app as it is a mobile messenger-based app. People just have to add their cellphone number of the ‘ Traffic Buddy Application ,' and get connected to this application," Choubey said. The commissioner said the application is currently working on a pilot basis.

"We will soon operate it in a full-fledged manner," Choubey told TOI. Deputy commissioner of police (Traffic) Bapu Bangar told TOI that the police are currently sending ‘e-Challans' to the traffic violators caught by the CCTV cameras. "Now citizens will be our CCTV cameras.

They can send photos of any traffic violation through this app. After verification, an e-Challan will be sent to that violator," Bangar said. The Pimpri Chinchwad police will also start an app for senior citizens where the respective person can download the app from the play store.

The app will be user-friendly and secure. Senior citizens just have to register themselves on this app. "This app has an emergency call facility, details of the hospitals in their areas and recreation facilities," the commissioner said.

Choubey said through this app, the police will have a database of the senior citizens in the Pimpri Chinchwad area. "This application, too, is on a pilot basis. Most of its work is done.

We will be launching it soon," Choubey said. He mentioned that these digital projects were initiated by the Pimpri Chinchwad police as part of the CM's 100-day action plan. "We have also updated the Pimpri Chinchwad police's website.

The new website is modern, secure and user-friendly," he said.
