KUALA LUMPUR: The results of the PKR elections at the branch level, including the youth and women's branches for the 2025 to 2028 term, signaled a wind of change, with new faces elected and several incumbent leaders defeated in closely-contested races.Several prominent figures managed to defend their positions after winning uncontested, including Communications Minister and Lembah Pantai member of parliament, Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, who retained the position of Lembah Pantai branch chief for a second consecutive term.Also winning uncontested was Deputy Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister, Datuk Seri R.
Ramanan, who serves as PKR deputy information chief 1.He secured the post of Sungai Buloh PKR branch chief.Education Minister and Wanita PKR chief, Fadhlina Sidek, defended her position as Nibong Tebal branch chief, after defeating two other candidates vying for the post.
She recorded a comfortable win with 677 votes, compared to Muttaqeen Mustafa (335 votes) and Muhammad Navalan Abdullah (72 votes).Economy Minister Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli, also secured victory in the race for Pandan PKR branch chief post.He garnered strong support with 883 votes, defeating his challenger, Shahrom Musa, who obtained 441 votes.
Another notable victory was Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, the prime minister's senior political secretary, who won the Hang Tuah Jaya PKR branch chief post.Shamsul described the win as a "sweet victory" following his defeat in a previous attempt three years ago.He secured 1,995 votes, defeating incumbent Mohd Rafee Ibrahim, who received 736 votes.
In Permatang Pauh, Nurul Izzah Anwar made a return to mainstream politics after winning uncontested, reclaiming her position as branch chief.Several incumbents also managed to retain their positions, including Johari Kassim in Jelutong, Mohamad Abdul Hamid in Tasek Gelugor, and Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, who defeated his opponent, Cheah Peng Guan.However, the outcome was different for Setiawangsa branch chief and Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability Minister, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, who lost the post to his challenger, Datuk Afdlin Shauki.
Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Adam Adli Abdul Halim, also failed in his bid for the deputy branch chief post, securing only 791 votes compared to Zamzizul Nordin, who received 1,905 votes.Other prominent figures who were defeated in the race for branch chief include Deputy National Unity Minister, K. Saraswathy (Bukit Bintang), Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan, Batu MP P.
Prabakaran, Balik Pulau MP Muhammad Bakhtiar Wan Chik, and Penang state executive councillor Fahmi Zainol (Jelutong).For the record, the first phase of the PKR 2025 elections—covering the divisions, Youth branches, and women's branches in seven states—was held from April 11 to 13.The second phase, involving Kelantan, Terengganu, the Federal Territories, Pahang, Penang, Johor, and Sabah, began on April 18 and concluded today.
